The Livonia Public Schools community is in for a real treat with the upcoming presentation of Cats, by the district’s Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) theater students.

This Broadway classic is coming to the new Performing Arts Center at Franklin High School on Thursday, Dec. 7; Friday, Dec. 8 and Saturday, Dec. 9. Tickets are $12 and are available by calling (734) 744-2650 ext. 70463. The shows are expected to sell out, so there may not be tickets offered on the show nights.

Cats, directed by Angie Hillman, is a story based on the Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, a collection of poem by T.S. Elliott and features the timeless music of Andrew Lloyd Webber. It is the fourth longest running musical in Broadway history.

It is known that cats have nine lives and this story focuses on the night cat tribe leader Old Deuteronomy decides which cat will be reborn to grow a new “Jellicle Life” and ascend to the Heaviside Layer.

The cats are gathered for a celebration. Throughout the show, the cats tell their stories with song and dance, in hopes that they will be chosen. Meanwhile, Grizabella, a former “Glamour cat,” is ridiculed and scorned by the younger cats for being old and crippled. The question of the night is, “who will be chosen?” Audiences will have to wait until the end of the show to find out.

Hundreds of hours have gone into making this CAPA production another stand-out in its long performance history. The directors even hand-made all of the cats’ wigs and tails out of yarn, with each wig taking about two hours to create by using a lot of yarn and hot glue.

Cast members include:
